Ptarmigan huntng with German Short Hair Pointers
We offer excellent ptarmigan hunting in prime hunting areas in various parts of Iceland with our great hunting dogs. Ptarmigan hunting is by far the most popular wing shooting sport in Iceland and game is plentiful. Hunting season is limted to Novemeber.
Standard ptarmigan hunting program consists of 6 days, whereof 4 days of hunting. For best results we suggest a hunting group with 2 - 4 hunters. We specialize on offering tailor made programs. Just send us your request and we will get back with a detailed program and price.
An example for hunting program:
Day 1 : In the afternoon you will arrive at Keflavik International Airport where you will be met by the guide. The guide will clear your weapons through customs and then transport you to Reykjavik. That evening you will arrive at your hunting accommodation.
Day 2 : We wake up before sunrise for a heavy breakfast. During the early morning light we head for the hunt area. The area where we hunt will depend on the amount of snow in the area. Sometimes we will be hunting in an area with brush cover, or if snow is scarce, we might head up into the mountains where the ground is very rough.
Day 3 : Same schedule.
Day 4 : Same schedule. At the the end of the day you will return to Reykjavik by airplane or car, depending on where you will be hunting. Late dinner in Reykjavik.
Day 5 : Transfer to Keflavik International Airport early next morning, arriving at a European airport around noon.
Hunting season : November.
The hunt : There is no bag limit. Number of birds depends of course on the shooting ability of each hunter, but weather will certainly also influence the result.
We hunt with excellent hunting dogs, our German Short Haired Pointers. We will use at least one dog per every two hunters. More information and pictures are on this webside.
What to bring : Shotguns gauge 12, double barrel or 3-shot pump or semi-automatic are the most suitable. Warm waterproof / windproof outer clothing, warm underwear and preferably Gore-Tex hiking boots. Temperatures can vary from -15° - +5° centigrade, but generally the temperature is fluctuating between -5° to +5 centigrade.
Price will be according to standard of accommodation and catering.

Special Service: We offer to take the hunt, fillet the birds and vacum pack the meat for the hunters to take with them.
